Depending on where you are in the book, Ben and Tatum are unhappy and divorcing or the best couple ever. That's because Tatum's narrative starts at the beginning and moves forward and Ben's starts at the end and moves back. We get the full picture, but not right away. This masterpiece of a novel has elements of A Star is Born (pick your favorite version) and also reminds me of Almost Paradise by Susan Isaacs, but is completely its own thing--it doesn't read like a pale imitation of either.
If you love love stories or Hollywood (Yes, they are a Hollywood power couple, though they take turns eclipsing each other) or smart stories told perfectly, this is for you. You need this book.
I've been a fan of Allison Winn Scotch's for years and this is her best book by far. (This is also an incredibly high bar. All of her books are excellent.)
Highly recommended.

Between Me and You A Novel eBook Allison Winn Scotch Reviews
This book had a great story that could have been told with 100 less pages. The author repeats several parts of the story multiple times. We get it! He promised to write a script for Tatum. This was mentioned at least a dozen times. Around the half way point of this book it felt like it was never going to end, but I kept on reading because I really did care about the characters and how it ended. If you can make it through this book, you won't be disappointed.
I really enjoyed this book! The story of a husband and wife, struggling, years into the marriage as one is more successful than the other at varying points in their careers, really hit close to home for me. I loved the dueling timelines (one is told in reverse order, while the other is told moving forward), as it kept the book interesting and I did not find it hard to follow. Yes, at times, both Ben and Tatum could be shallow and self-absorbed, but that's life and at least they were honest about it! The key to any good marriage is communication and these two people show what happens when you stop communicating. Again, this is real life! Marriage is hard work. The Hollywood setting added to the intrigue here, but did not take away from the story, I think you would find similar characters in any setting. Great book from a great author, will definitely read her again!
Interesting way to present a book...his side vs her side but one chronologically and one in reverse order. At times it got a little confusing to keep straight, but overall it was an interesting way to learn the couple's story. I wish I would have liked the characters more...Tatum felt vapid; Ben, whiny. Not the best thing I've read but not a bad read either.
Books that skip around in their narrative can work or be really, really bad ... but when they're done well like this one, they're wonderful. Welcome to Ben and Tatum's marriage, told in opposite directions--Tatum's moving forward from their first meeting, Ben's working backwards from when it's all fallen apart. Family tragedies, highs and lows of their respective Hollywood careers, it all contributes to the happiness and the woes. I found it hard to put this down, and appreciated the opposing narrative directions because the story was never bogged down by the gloom of a marriage splintering apart, because it balanced itself between both perspectives--never all sad, never all joyous--right up until the ending when the finale is told from both point of views, moving forward into a satisfying ending.
At one point, I thought I might not finish this book. I couldn’t get into the style of storytelling at first and the story seemed like it would be bound to break my heart, a couple who has split up and the story is told from both them falling in love to them breaking each other’s hearts. I decided to give it a few more chapters and I’m really glad I did. Between Me and You is the story of Tatum and Ben, but it’s also the story of how outside influences shape the future and the past, as well as shape our reactions and perspectives. I found myself really caring about Ben and Tatum and was invested in their future. The storytelling is a bold move, but it pays off. Just stick with the story long enough to let it impact you, because I’m glad I did.
Between You and Me is a clever book about love, relationships, and life. Ben is a struggling screenwriter while Tatum longs to be an actress. Their lives intertwine and they fall in love, marry and move to LA where their lives begin to take different paths. One finds success while the other struggles and such an imbalance challenges their relationship. Allison Winn Scotch cleverly tells the same story from two perspectives, but begins one storyline (Ben’s) in the present and work backwards, and the other (Tatum’s) at the start and move to the present. While there is some overlapping between the two narratives, you’re seeing those same events through the other character’s eyes, which makes the retelling fresh.
I found both Ben and Tatum as likable characters, even when they make frustrating choices. The reader knowing certain events (like deaths of important people in Tatum and Ben’s lives) doesn’t take away from the suspense.
For any fan of Allison Winn Scotch, I highly recommend this book. I'd like to thank NetGalley for providing me an advanced copy.
This was a great book and Allison Winn Scotch dealt with so much beneath the surface. Anything I mention in specifics might give too much away, so I'll just say that there's a lot to love in this book. The author hits on various themes such as relationships, success, marriage, and forgiveness, all at a deep level. And she did an amazing job telling the story from different time perspectives and POVs, something that's not easy to pull off. The book, overall, was bittersweet, and I especially loved the ending. If you like character-driven stories that deal with love and loss then this book is for you.
