The story of Ella Michelin sounded intriguing when I read the blurb and saw the cover. However after a few pages I knew it wasn't going to pan out the way I expected it to. The book was a quick read with no substance or real suspense to it. Ella's ex-boyfriend gets murdered and she is the prime suspect. She knew she didn't do it and so did her friends. Instead of waiting for the police this short order cook at a local greasy spoon, Ella decides to investigate on her own. Does she find out who really committed this crime? Does she go to jail for life?I'll let you the reader find out for yourself. Once again, it was a cute little read but not a lot of substance to it. At least it helped me pass about an hour of my time!

I was not as impressed with the book as I thought should be by the description. Ella did all the wrong things and so did the two police who accused her of the crime. This story does not seem at all like it could happen in real life. Nobody would speak to her and she got caught every time she tried to snoop but she still works the case. The characters were good, but I just didn't believe the story. The police are just horribly portrayed and just didn't seem real. Overall, just the story isn't that good. It is too simple. The best part was the recipes though, the twist at the end was nice.

This was a quick, fun read. There wasn't a lot of depth to the story. The characters were okay. I was a little surprised how it turned out. Nice way to kill an hour or so.
Surprisingly a good story.The characters were believable,charming. The author kept my interest,couldn't put it down.Recipes towards end of book were an added bonus.
A sad story of broken hearts and murder. Even the police think she is guilty,thus it is up to her to find the murder with the help of an older police detective. Sometimes friends are not what they seem but that makes finding the murderer so much harder.
This book was light and fluffy like good pancakes. Ella plays detective throughout the whole story until she finally solves the mystery. Hotcake Homicide has some funny moments and was overall a fun read.
This was a really fun whodunit mystery. I liked how there was a side storyline outside the mystery where Ella is trying to make a positive change in her life.
