This is a book for those teenagers / young adults that are hungry for some romance. The story itself is actually not half bad, but the book suffers from the same problem as S. Meyer’s Twilight-series: it’s poorly written. There are some actual grammatical errors, but beyond that the language is actually too simple and resembles a teenage conversation. McMichael also underestimates the reader constantly. For example, when her professor gives Mari (a rather obvious) compliment, McMichael still feels the need to underline this by “he complimented me”. And for heaven’s sake, do NOT shorten professor as Prof. in someone’s speech!

I also think that the first person narrator is more often than not a lazy choice. There are very few books where it is actually the best choice for the story, and this is not one of them. If it’s not done extraordinarily well, it makes character development harder, which is exactly what happens in this book. Mari is rather naïve as is, and her one-sided view of the others makes them seem shallow and not relatable. What also bothered me is that Mari doesn’t actually describe any contact with her mom throughout her fall in college, but is very distraught when she goes back to her own time. This just doesn’t make them seem close enough to warrant that kind of an extreme reaction. McMichael also makes her out to be without faults, which is annoying and just not realistic. But at least she isn’t wallowing in self-pity, either.

I don’t mind the description of rather unimportant events (like what her weeks are like or the CRUSH competitions), but this is done in a way that gives them more value than character development. The story in itself is pretty good, but the book could be so much better with proper editing and if the writer gave the reader more time to understand characters other than Mari. As it is, the book seems a bit rushed (even if the first half seems a bit slow at the same time). I can’t help but compare this book to Donna Tartt’s The Secret History, even if the genre is about as different as can be. But in that book you can see how the first person narrative doesn’t prevent the character development and the writer takes her time to describe the relationships between them more thoroughly. In this book, only Mari’s relationship with Seth gets any time to develop. I would have loved to read more about her time tutoring Ty and Dee and getting to know them. Mari and Sim’s relationship also doesn’t get too much time or effort from the writer. Still, the story is interesting enough that I bought the sequel.

I make it a habit to decide at the 10% mark whether a book is worth reading, or not. I held off to the 15% mark on this one because I hoped that a real story was developing here. I wasted my time; the storyline was circular and repetitive, with minimal forward motion. The extreme over use of the word ‘CUTE’ was annoying, and a crutch like that usually means that there was no care given to the rest of the story.

Now I know that this is supposed to be a YA story – but does that mean it can be unedited and amateurish? I don’t believe that’s acceptable.
I'd have to say that the best part of this book was then ending. The ending is what now has me hooked. Throughout this book, I found myself able to put it down and continue my daily routine and pick up in between. It had enough to it to keep me going and not completely blow it off but not enough for it to be a show stopper. Make sense? The last two chapters is all it took before I realized that it was just getting good. So, with that being said, off to book 2.

Worth reading nonetheless.
Although this was a very good book, the author committed one of my greatest pet peeves and I will probably never buy another book from this one. I absolutely hate when the author continues the story in another book. For God's sake, finish the damn story in one book. If you have a backstory, finish one story before you tell another.
This was so cheesy for me. I just couldn't get into it. Not captivating and couldn't relate to the characters. Regretted buying this. Majority of the plot talks about the female heroine feelings towards Sean being a player and her daily college routine which just turned me off. No explanation as to why the male lead thought she was the one. Maybe it could have been better if the male lead POV was included to give more telling details of his feelings. Not to crazy about how the male lead couldn't say no to his ex girlfriend why pursuing the female lead. It even details a game for 5-10 pages long which I just flipped through. I didn't feel the passion, the angst, and the romance. Just plain cheesy plot and not captivating. Boring really. Couldn't finished the book. I already forgot the names of the characters. Just to show how forgettable and boring the book is. Don't bother with this one.
Seth Sangre is technically really old. He was born THOUSANDS of years ago. Due to some time travel-ing that I won’t get into (spoilers!), he is in modern day, and attending college. Mari just started at the same college as well, and while she doesn't want to fall prey to the “player” type of guy anymore, that’s pretty much the first thing that we see happen to her. But it’s not that simple, as events move along, and Mari realizes that Seth is not all that he seems…

Normally, when someone starts a description of a book with “It’s like Twilight, but…” I’m already not interested, unless the next part is “…but not written poorly?” While it may be a gross generalization, that would be a fairly good summation. Seriously, I read MAYBE 15 pages of Twilight before deleting it, but this book kept me interested to the very end. Mari is a college freshman, so she is more mature than a 16 year old high school girl (although sometimes, only slightly more mature), and I really enjoy time travel in any way, shape, or form. As long as the time travel is done well. And while there wasn’t as much as I would have liked so far (I’m looking for Dr Who frequency of time travel), it was very well done.

I really enjoyed this first volume of the series, and I will definitely be picking up future additions!
If I had realized this book was for preteens I wouldn't have downloaded it. Plot, character development and dialogue were all childish and not worth the read. Don't waste your time unless you're 12 or younger!
